Introduction: in the last decade, publications on internships in the field of Physical Education have increased significantly. It is assumed that the constant changes in the guidelines underlying initial teacher training impact the organization and development of internships, both in Brazil and internationally, leading to a growing number of studies on the subject. Objective: this study aims to provide an updated perspective on scientific production regarding the practicum in the training of Physical Education teachers, with a focus on identifying the presence of the supervising professor in these studies. Methodology: a systematic literature review was conducted using the electronic databases Scielo, SCOPUS, EBSCO, and Web of Science, including studies in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. After applying inclusion and eligibility criteria, 25 articles published between 2012 and 2023 were analyzed. Results: the results were organized based on methodology, objectives, and main findings. Discussion: the discussion focused on the initial research questions, including the accumulated body of work found and the most common publication venues, the predominant research methodologies, recurring and emerging themes, and, ultimately, the role of university professors as internship supervisors in the analyzed studies. Conclusions: regarding both Brazilian and international scientific production on university professors who supervise internships, few studies were found, highlighting the need for further research to investigate who is responsible for guiding this crucial stage of initial teacher training. © 2025 Federacion Espanola de Docentes de Educacion Fisica.
