Although there have been some research in the work ethic of contemporary employees, little has been done evaluating youngsters who will evolve into the next generation of workers. This study analyzes middle school youth and their work ethic toward school and related activities. Data was collected from two South Georgia school districts for a cross sectional analysis of various psychographic and demographic information. The personal characteristics of those positively oriented to work ethic are: low frequency of disciplinary action against the student, positive teacher ratings to student's work ethic, student's GPA, student's perception of the importance of the job of male caretaker, and student's peer self-esteem. Other variables included student's attitude toward female caretaker work and the student's positive impression of both the female and male caretaker's jobs and how important the work activity are valued by these caretakers. This is a preliminary study with the assumption that much research needs to be done in this area.
