To cultivate the core competencies of technicians in Light Emitting Diode (LED) and the optoelectronic industry, indicators of professional competence were explored in this study. 55 indicators were for professional knowledge, 58 for skills, and 22 for attitudes. Two rounds of questionnaire surveys in the Delphi method and factor analysis were implemented. Cronbach's alpha for each scale was greater than 0.800, while that for the whole scale was 0.842. The assessment of the professional competence of technicians in the LED industry was reliable. The results provide a reference for making training programs for technicians to meet the demand for technicians in the LED industry. The results also can be used to link industry and academia. © 2023 IEEE.
