Micro-persistence in the acquisition of computational thinking

Abstract

Taking a Learning Analytics approach, we study the micropersistence of students in acquiring computational thinking. Micro-persistence is the behavior characterized by being persistent in completing a task with the best possible solution. We do so by analyzing data of 1st-6th-grade children (n=119) who used an online, game-based learning platform (CodeMonkey™). Overall, we find that micro-persistence is associated with task difficulty, and that contextual variables may explain persistence better than personal attributes. © 2019, The Education University of Hong Kong.
