Reflection, as an essential component of reflective learning and reflective practice, is regarded as a valuable tool in various medical settings. It is crucial for surgeons, both in the context of training and specialist practice, to ponder on their experiences, exploring with rigour the complexities of their actions, assess their performance, and identify areas for improvement. These features make reflection also important for life-long learning and maintenance of certification to assure competency. Practitioners often need appropriate education on reflection; however, reflection is still understudied and underutilized in surgery, and implementation of reflection as a learning strategy is still limited. © Società Editrice Universo (SEU).

Malaysia, in its pursuit of strengthening nation education, is actively reforming its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system to align with diverse industry demands. However, challenges persist in empowering TVET especially providing comprehensive teaching strategy that match with industrial needs. This study in other view focuses on gathering students' perceptions towards their learning experiences within Work-Based learning (WBL) programs, offering valuable insights into TVET program effectiveness and teaching strategies. A method of survey has been used in this study as to gather perceptions from the 62 respondents of technological students from selected TVET institution who had experience with WBL. Data has been analysed using mean score analysis and Pearson Correlation analysis to test the relationship between both perceptions of WBL effectiveness and teaching and learning experiences. The findings revealed moderate level of student perceptions on the WBL effectiveness towards self-development (M=3.33) and moderate perceptions towards their teaching and learning (TnL) experiences (M=2.99). Extensively, study revealed the positive correlation between WBL effectiveness and TnL experiences indicates that teaching strategy in WBL significantly influence the overall WBL effectiveness level or vice versa. Thus, this study suggests enhancements such as incorporating better teaching and learning strategy comprise of experiential projects, mentorship programs, interdisciplinary collaborations, and blended learning environments to enrich WBL programs effectiveness. Perhaps, this could provide a comprehensive perspective on students' views and offer guidance for enhancing WBL in Malaysian TVET institutions to create an impactful teaching and learning environment. © 2025, Rajarambapu Institute Of Technology. This study explores the transformative impact of authentic assessments on student engagement, empowerment, and inclusivity in higher education. Traditional assessment methods often fail to adequately assess diverse skill sets and prepare students for real-world professional demands. In contrast, authentic assessments allow students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in meaningful, context-rich tasks that mirror professional challenges. Through the perspectives of six experienced academics, this mixed-methods study explores how authentic and flexible assessments promote student agency, inclusivity, and engagement. The findings highlight the importance of aligning assessments with clear learning objectives, offering students choices, and embedding real-world relevance to foster deeper learning and equitable opportunities. However, the study also reveals tensions between the inclusivity offered in academic settings and the less flexible demands of the professional world, suggesting a need for ongoing reflection in assessment design. Ultimately, the study calls for reimagined assessment practices that empower students and better prepare them for future success. © 2025 James Nicholas Publishers.

The immense aim of education is not knowledge but action. Any education system should offer an opportunity to the student to adapt what she or he has learnt in practice and develop professionally. When the learning happens by implementing, the knowledge that is used becomes inerasable in the mind. In this context this paper discusses how a project- based learning approach adopted in Microcontroller course enhances the programming skill of a student and also how effectively this skill can be infused with CDIO standards. Courses like Microprocessor and Microcontroller involves both theoretical and practical classes. However, Reports and feedback say students were not successful in implementing big projects in companies using higher end processors with some hands-on exercises during their course learning . This work addresses this issue by introducing Project-based learning (PBL) enables students to gain critical competencies that support professional education and equip them for employment in the future. A project is a special undertaking that has uncertainties that must be effectively handled during execution. Instead of the usual essay- and exam-based traditional classroom learning , project-based learning is better able to tackle the challenges of training students to solve real-world problems. The students were insisted to do their own project which brings the applicability of PBL to implementation phase of CDIO standard. Through well-defined learning objectives of PBL, programming skill, debugging skill, readiness to adopt and implement by acquiring overall confidence in the course, were undoubtedly improved beyond the regular theory and laboratory classes. Also, the assessment methodology was changed on the basis of project implemented by the students. The recent rapid integration of digital technology into China’s vocational teaching system has presented a range of cognitive and affective barriers that hinder language learning . This research covers the complex association between language anxiety, learning self-awareness, and digital information overload (DIO). A mixed-methods design was used, using the Foreign Language Anxiety Model by Horwitz and Metacognition Theory by Flavell. The three validated scales used to collect quantitative data were the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS), the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI), and a self-constructed Digital Information Overload Scale (DIOS), administered to 312 students. The semi-structured interviews and focus group sessions provided complementary qualitative data. Some empirical data found that there is a strong correlation between increased exposure to digital information overload and increased language anxiety, with metacognitive self-awareness being a moderating variable able to reduce such anxiety levels. Regression analyses also show that metacognitive awareness is a meaningful mediator in the DIO-anxiety relationship. These findings support the necessity to incorporate metacognitive learning , digital literacy, and emotional scaffolding into vocational programs. In this way, the study contributes to the current knowledge of SLA in digital environments and provides corresponding implications for the preparation of teachers and the design of learning -management systems. Notably, it fills a gap of interest in the research community by shedding light on the protective effect of metacognition against digital-induced anxiety in under-resourced learning environments. © 2025 by the author(s).

This study investigates the impact of artificial intelligence (AI)-supported education in higher education, specifically examining its integration into a digital photography course and its effects on both students and instructors. A qualitative research methodology was employed, and participants were selected through purposive sampling. The study involved one instructor and 38 students, with data collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using content analysis within a qualitative case study design. The findings indicate that AI enhances educational processes by facilitating individualized learning , improving instructional effectiveness, supporting digital content development, and advancing academic language proficiency. Students demonstrated improvements in critical evaluation and technological adaptability. Additionally, the study revealed that AI-supported tools contributed to the development of students’ technical skills and promoted active engagement in learning processes. The immediate feedback provided by AI tools aided students’ understanding of fundamental photography principles. However, some students expressed concerns about potential risks associated with AI, including decreased engagement, learner passivity, and exposure to misinformation or contradictory content. The study highlights the importance of integrating AI within a sound pedagogical framework to ensure its effective application in educational contexts. Drawing on the experiences of both students and the instructor, the findings suggest that AI-supported educational models can enhance learning efficiency, while also emphasizing the need to bolster information reliability and foster critical thinking skills. © 2025 by authors; licensee CEDTECH by Bastas.

The rapid advancement of digital technology and industrial automation has compelled vocational education to undergo significant curriculum transformation to produce graduates equipped for the demands of the modern workforce. A persistent gap between educational content and industry requirements poses a critical challenge that must be addressed strategically. This study aims to examine the transformation of vocational curricula in preparing students with essential digital and automation related competencies, with a specific focus on the role of digital technopreneurship. The research employs a mixed-method approach, including literature reviews, curriculum analysis, and semi structured interviews with stakeholders from vocational institutions and automation driven industries. The findings highlight the urgent need to integrate emerging technologies such as automation systems, Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and data analytics into vocational programs to enhance their alignment with industrial needs. Additionally, the development of cross functional skills, including communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem solving, is identified as crucial to graduates success in dynamic work environments. The study underscores the importance of collaborative partnerships between educational institutions and industry players in designing adaptive, future ready curriculum. Furthermore, sustained investment in educational infrastructure and continuous professional development for educators is essential to ensure effective delivery of technology oriented learning . Objective To explore the effect of project-based learning on the training of sharp injury prevention skills in the pre-job training for nursing interns and its impact on the incidence of sharp injuries during internship. Methods Two classes ( class A and B), majoring in nursing at Medical College of Nanchang Institute of Technology in March 2023 were selected as the research subjects by convenience sampling method. Coin flipping method was used to designate class A as the routine group and class B as the intervention group. The routine group received routine pre-job training which mainly focused on retrospective intensive training on nursing operation skills. On this basis- the intervention group integrated project-based learning as compensation education on sharp injury prevention skills. Kirkpatrick's four level training evaluation model was adopted to comprehensively evaluate the educational effectiveness at the four progressive levels of "reaction, learning -behavior, and outcome" at corresponding stages. Results 56 nursing interns were included in the class A routine group and class B intervention group, respectively. The course evaluation score (128.67 ± 4.39 vs 117.28 ± 6.55), needlestick protection knowledge cognition score (109.11 ± 4.38 vs 96.44 ± 6.72), safe injection behavior score (38.45 ± 4.91 vs 32.30 ± 5.62), occupational identity score (58.02 ± 8.55 vs 51.77 ± 15.86), and job competency score (82.59 ± 13.35 vs 75.61 ± 15.09) of nursing interns in the intervention group were all higher than those in the routine group-differences were all statistically sig-nificant (all P<0.05). The incidence of sharp injuries ( 19.64% vs 57.14%) and the average frequency of occurrence (1.45 vs 2.13) in nursing interns in the intervention group were both lower than those in the control group. The case intervention rate (87.50% vs 45.59%) and case reporting rate (93.75% vs 32.35%) after sharp injury were both higher than those in the routine group, and the differences were both statistically significant (both P<0.05). Conclusion Introducing project-based learning in pre-job training for nursing interns can effectively improve their mastery of protection skills, reduce the incidence of sharp injuries during internships, and have important practical value in cultivating their occupational protection abilities. © 2025 Hunan Xiangya Medical Periodical Press Co.Ltd. High-order thinking skills are crucial in pursuing competency mastery within Islamic higher education. A viable approach to attain these educational goals is implementing the Peer Instruction strategy. Nevertheless, a comprehensive model for peer instruction in blended learning environments still needs to be developed. This research seeks to create a model for instructional system design that outlines learning procedures, integrating the Peer Instruction strategy within a blended learning framework informed by a just-in-time teaching methodology. The built model is intended to guide instructors in creating learning to stimulate learners’ higher-order thinking skills. The development process follows the formative evaluation procedure, consisting of several stages, such as selecting a design theory, designing an instance of the theory, collecting and analyzing formative data on the instance, revising the instance, repeating the data collection and revision cycle, and offer tentative revisions for the theory. The resulting product has also undergone several validity tests by experts, including instructional designers, blended learning experts, lecturers, and students. The product’s effectiveness in improving critical thinking and problem-solving was carried out through a test instrument for students. Validation and effectiveness tests showed that this product was valid, practical, and effective in improving critical thinking and problem-solving skills. © 2025, Anadolu Universitesi. This study investigates the factors contributing to early school dropout in vocational and technical high schools in Turkey, utilizing machine learning techniques to analyze a dataset of personal, socio-economic, familial, and academic variables. The data was collected via a detailed survey administered to students at one of the largest Vocational and Technical High School in Istanbul, capturing 35 features (factors) relevant to dropout rates. Various classifiers, including Decision Trees and Random Forest, were employed to identify at-risk students with high accuracy. The Decision Tree model, enhanced by the Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE), demonstrated the best results for identifying potential dropouts, indicating its effectiveness in educational settings where early intervention is critical. By feature importance analysis this research reveals that parental education levels, family structure, and financial hardships are significant predictors of dropout likelihood. Despite the study’s limitations, such as a small dataset and some features with zero-filled columns, the results underscore the importance of data-driven approaches in developing targeted interventions to reduce dropout rates. This research not only enhances the understanding of dropout phenomena in Turkish vocational education but also provides practical insights for policymakers and educators to improve student retention through early and informed interventions. The findings highlight the potential of machine learning to enhance educational support systems, ensuring that every student can succeed. © The Author(s) 2025.
