Education is a process that endures in the lives of human beings from cradle to grave. However, conventional educational methods do not provide enough real- life experiences. Therefore, the significance of the educational approach of the famous American pedagogue John Dewey is increasing. A vocational school is a type of school that provides practical education rather than theory. In this context, the purpose of this chapter is to raise social awareness among students by allowing them to participate in social life. Students employed this project under the umbrella of improving their feelings of moral and cultural values. The study is qualitative, longitudinal, and comparatively validates students’ attitudes towards their vocational education. Data analysis was collected through observation, student interviews, and the researcher’s diary. The findings of the study indicated that students applied what they found out about their profession by rehearsing their future professional lives outside the classroom walls in an attempt to shed some light on their learning process. © 2025 by IGI Global Scientific Publishing. The field of education for sustainable development advocates for new teaching methods that offer hands-on, engaging, and transformative learning experiences that encourage critical and systemic thinking within the framework of sustainable development. Higher education institutions strive to support the attainment of SDG 4 by promoting inclusive, fair, and high-quality education. Service-learning in higher education is in tune with the educational principles of critical and transformative pedagogy and facilitated through implementation of innovative pedagogical approaches in training professionals that will be socially critical and committed to social transformation, with the goal of achieving a larger social justice. Consequently, one of the major challenges attributed to the lack of social practice and community service in the learning environment leads to the detachment of students to the community, as well as the low social responsibility among the undergraduates. The study aimed to fill the research gap in the literature on the impact of service-learning pedagogies among students based on knowledge, attitude, and spirit and how it is correlated with professional development, personal development, social transactions. The global higher education landscape is fast evolving, demanding that universities equip students with critical knowledge and 21st-century skills. Daystar University (DU) 's switch from teacher-centered models to Problem-Based learning (PBL) reflects this shift. PBL stresses critical thinking and real-world problem-solving, essential for today’s interconnected world. The chapter examined the challenges and advancements of PBL implementation at DU using qualitative methods involving interviews with 30 selected informants and document analysis. Findings show that while PBL has been integrated across various programs, challenges like resistance to change, insufficient faculty training, and resource limitations persist. However, significant progress has been made, including adopting technology-enhanced tools, increased faculty collaboration, and a growing culture of innovation among students. The study recommends targeted faculty development, improved infrastructure, and stronger support systems to enhance PBL’s effectiveness in fostering more profound learning experiences. © 2025 by IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
