Traditional models for analyzing learning ability use simple, single-factor models that cannot be analyzed to impact analyze the key factors that affect learning. Therefore, the study establishes a learning ability optimization model for higher vocational students based on principal component analysis combined with back propagation neural network. By collecting multi-source heterogeneous data such as class activity and discussion activity, and using back propagation neural network to provide students with corresponding optimization of learning ability. The experiment builds its own database of multiple students from higher vocational schools, and the research model has a mean absolute error of 0.23 points in predicting scores when the number of iterations reaches 400, and the root mean square error stabilizes at 0.66 points at the end of the validation set of iterations. In the comparison of the optimization of the students ' scores it was shown that the research model improved the score of student #46 by 12 points. The above results show that the research model can target and analyze the learning ability of higher vocational students one by one, and provide new reference ideas for creating a good academic style in higher vocational colleges. © 2025 IEEE.

The dichotomous key has emerged as an active learning tool that can support both students and teachers in learning and teaching biology. The present study is one of the first to examine the dichotomous key within a STEM-integrated active-learning framework; it aimed to investigate the impact of this tool on students ’ knowledge, retention, attitudes toward biology, self-efficacy, and also spending time in classrooms. A quasi-experimental research design was employed, involving control (N = 51) and experimental (N = 140) groups selected from five different schools (N = 191) with varying knowledge levels. Pre-, post-, and retention tests were conducted. The findings show that the dichotomous key significantly enhanced knowledge, attitudes toward biology, and self-efficacy, particularly among low-achieving students . The tool also promoted student-centered learning by increasing peer interaction and reducing teacher-led questioning. Moreover, although both the experimental and control groups exhibited overall score increments, the experimental group showed stronger associations with achievement, attitude, and self-efficacy. These findings suggest that the dichotomous key can serve as an effective and sustainable STEM-based active-learning tool, particularly for enhancing engagement and academic development among diverse student populations. © 2025 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

With the continuous growth of tourism, there is an increased need for qualified human resources. High turnover rates of employees working in tourism and hospitality have been reported in the literature, occurring frequently in the first years working in those industries. Career expectations and work conditions have been indicated as possible causes for this. For many undergraduate students , internships are the first professional contact and can play a role in shaping career expectations. The aim of this study is to perform a bibliometric analysis of scientific production dealing with these issues, namely internships or career expectations in the context of undergraduate students in the areas of hospitality and tourism. The Scopus database was used to search and collect papers and R Studio software, with the Biblioshiny platform, was used in the analysis. A total of 270 scientific articles were exported, and content analysis was applied to the 10 most cited articles. It was verified that there has been an increased interest in these topics since 2018, with 50% of the production being from this period. The top production country was USA, followed by China. The journals that published the most were Journal of Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism Education, and Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Education. The keyword used with more frequency was internships. Positive and negative points are mentioned about working in the hotel and restaurant sector, and it becomes clear that knowing students ’ expectations makes it easier for them to be welcomed by the employer. The importance of internships is highlighted, although a lack of enthusiasm among the students is noticed. In Uganda, students with disabilities are offered specially designed technical and vocational education and training (TVET). To assess the impact of TVET programmes on the self-esteem, frustration levels, and social perceptions of students with disabilities, a mixed-methods approach was employed to analyze the effects of TVET schools in Bunyangabu, Kasese, and Bundibugyo in western Uganda. Quantitative data were collected through surveys of 150 students with disabilities and 400 students without disabilities at these schools as well as through focus groups and key informant interviews with students (with and without disabilities), principals, teachers, representatives from associations for persons with disabilities, and government officials. The results indicated that students with disabilities in TVET schools reported lower self-esteem than students without disabilities. However, students with disabilities tended to experience low levels of frustration regarding their conditions because their vocational education increased their overall self-confidence. Meanwhile, students without disabilities began to gain more positive perceptions of their peers with disabilities after observing their skill development in specific sectors. These findings suggest that TVET programmes can play a vital role in improving the self-confidence, perception, and social inclusion of persons with disabilities by enhancing their skills and ensuring their economic independence. © 2025 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Background: Academic stress can negatively influence academic performance, particularly in health science programs with high demands. Objective: To analyze the association between perceived academic stress and academic performance in first-year kinesiology students , considering gender differences and stress dimensions (stressors, reactions, and coping strategies). Methods: This cross-sectional study included 82 students assessed using the SISCO-IIA inventory. Academic performance was measured via final course grades. Descriptive analyses, chi-square tests, t-tests, and binary logistic regression models were applied. Results: students with high levels of academic stressors were significantly more likely to underperform (OR = 4.62, 95% CI [1.24, 17.22], p = 0.023). Female students reported higher emotional and behavioral responses to stress but were less likely to underperform (OR = 0.30, 95% CI [0.11, 0.79], p = 0.014). Age was not significantly associated with performance (p = 0.433). Conclusion: Academic stress negatively influences academic outcomes among first-year students . Gender differences in stress response patterns may affect vulnerability and coping effectiveness. These findings highlight the need for early screening, targeted interventions, and support systems to mitigate academic stress and promote student success. © © 2025 Granada-Granada, Valencia-Narbona, Lizana and González-Rojas.

Vocational High Schools (VHS) aim to produce graduates who are prepared for the workforce, however in practice, the unemployment rate among VHS graduates remains high. Psychomotor skills are important for VHS students . This study's objective was to analyze the psychomotor skills needed by VHS students and their influence on work readiness. This research is quantitative research with an ex post facto approach. Final-year VHS Building Information Modeling and Design Program students in the "Gerbangkertosusila" region (Gresik, Bangkalan, Mojokerto, Surabaya, Sidoarjo, and Lamongan) in East Java, Indonesia, served as the study's subjects. Questionnaires and observation sheets were used as data collection techniques. Data analysis using descriptive and path analysis. Proficiency in mathematical discourse constitutes a critical vector in catalyzing cognitive development and epistemic consolidation among secondary-level learners. These skills extend beyond problem-solving and comprehension to formally explicate mathematical constructs with clarity and logic, using appropriate mathematical symbols and language. Despite its importance, a systematic review of existing research on high school students ' mathematical communication skills has not yet been conducted, presenting challenges for researchers in keeping pace with the latest developments. This paper seeks to provide an in-depth review of the current practices, key factors, obstacles, and future directions related to these skills. Employing the PRISMA methodology, the study reviews 50 publications between 2017 and 2024 from various data sources. The publications are analyzed to uncover major findings, publication trends, geographical distribution of research, common topics, and research methodologies. Previous research has demonstrated that project-based learning (PjBL) and flipped classroom models can enhance student engagement and academic outcomes, but their combined use in creative writing instruction remains underexplored. This study investigates the effectiveness of a flipped PjBL model in improving creative writing skills in higher education. The research seeks to answer: (1) Does the flipped PjBL model significantly affect creative writing learning outcomes? (2) What is the relationship between student perception, motivation, and learning outcomes? It is hypothesized that the flipped PjBL model positively influences learning outcomes and that student perception and motivation are positively associated with those outcomes. A quantitative quasi-experimental design was used, involving 62 university students aged 19–21, divided into an experimental group (n = 33) and a control group (n = 29) through purposive sampling. Questionnaires measured student perception and motivation. The study analyzed the development of transversal competencies in university students from various professional programs at a Peruvian university, with an emphasis on the differences according to the academic program. Using a non-experimental comparative descriptive design, the Graduate Transversal Competencies Assessment Questionnaire (CECTGRA) was applied to a sample of 242 students distributed across six programs: Accounting, Nursing, Hospitality and Tourism, Engineering, International Business, and Psychology. The results highlight that systemic competencies are the most valued by students in terms of importance, followed by interpersonal and instrumental competencies, evidencing the relevance of critical thinking and problem-solving in professional performance. However, the Kruskal-Wallis test revealed significant differences in instrumental competencies according to the professional career (p < 0.05), with Nursing and International Business showing better results in this dimension. On the other hand, no significant differences were found in interpersonal and systemic competencies between careers, highlighting their universal importance in professional training. These findings underscore the need to adjust university curricula to strengthen instrumental competencies in specific disciplines and ensure comprehensive training that prepares students for the demands of the globalized and competitive job market. © 2025 Latin American and Caribbean Consortium of Engineering Institutions. Objective: To explore the development trajectory of humanistic care and occupational calling of college nursing students and the predictive relationship between them, so as to provide a theoretical basis for improving the occupational calling of nursing students . Methods: From April 1, 2023 to May 30, 2024, a total of 366 nursing students from 10 colleges and universities in China were selected as the research objects in a longitudinal survey. T1: the early stage of internship (1 to 2 months of internship), T2: the middle stage of internship (4 to 5 months of internship), T3: At the end of internship (8 to 10 months of internship), the humanistic care and occupational calling of nursing students were tracked and investigated, and the cross-lag model and latent growth model were used for data analysis. Results: 342 valid questionnaires were collected (effective recovery rate 93.44%). The cross-lag model showed that: The level of humanistic care at the previous time node significantly positively predicted the occupational calling at the next node (β = 0.431, p < 0.01, β = 0.408, p < 0.001), and the occupational calling at the previous time node on average significantly positively predicted the humanistic care at the next node (β = 0.426, p < 0.001, β = 0.414, p < 0.001). The latent variable growth model showed that the humanistic care of college nursing students in the internship stage showed an upward trend (S = 1.025, p < 0.001), and the occupational calling showed an upward trend (S = 1.155, p < 0.001). At the initial level, humanistic care could predict occupational calling (β = 0.458, p = 0.002), and both the initial level (β = 0.417, p = 0.008) and the development speed (β = 0.439, p < 0.001) of humanistic care could positively predict the development speed of occupational calling. The initial level of occupational calling could positively predict the development speed of occupational calling (β = 0.297, p = 0.020). Conclusion: Humanistic care and occupational calling of nursing students are on the rise. College teachers and clinical teachers should pay attention to the evaluation of humanistic care of nursing students , and rationally use the interaction between humanistic care and occupational calling, which has a positive effect on improving nursing students ’ occupational calling. © © 2025 Su, Deng, Hu and Chen.
