The modern apprenticeship system is of great significance in improving the quality of talent cultivation, but the phenomenon of two skins of school and enterprise in the process of modern apprenticeship talent cultivation is still serious, which is due to the lack of a suitable teaching team. The article constructs the curriculum system framework of a modern apprenticeship system that is oriented towards the OBE concept and provides an evaluation index system for the effect of talent cultivation. On the basis of analyzing the construction of an “embedded” dual-teacher teaching team, the assessment system of its construction effectiveness is designed. Taking vocational colleges and universities in S province as the research object, we obtained the data of each evaluation index through the questionnaire, solved the weights of each index by entropy weighting method, and analyzed the cultivation effect of the modern apprenticeship system by combining it with the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. In addition, a weighted plain Bayesian model for evaluating the effectiveness of “embedded” dual-teacher teaching team construction was established based on the plain Bayesian algorithm. The weighting of basic skills in the cultivation effect of the modern apprenticeship system is 35.68%, and the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation score for the cultivation effect is about 5.07 points. The weight of basic work in the construction of an “embedded” dual-teacher teaching team is 0.3742, and the time consumed for the evaluation of the construction effectiveness using WNB is only 10.04s, and the evaluation error with the actual result is only 0.008. The multidimensional evaluation model can clarify the relationship between modern apprenticeship and the “embedded” dual-teacher teaching team. The purpose of this article was to explore the diversification of employment strategies among vocational and technical college students in Lishui, Zhejiang, China, and to propose optimization strategies for college management systems to support these diversified employment strategies. In recent years, the employment situation for college graduates has been severe, with persistent pressure on college students’ employment prospects. This study used a partial least squares logistic regression model to investigate the employment quality of college students. The methodology included verifying the fit and significance of the regression model, analyzing relevant factors that affect employment, and proposing optimization strategies for college management systems. The study started with a discussion on the growing competitive pressure in the job market caused by the increasing number of graduates. Survey data were collected from senior students in Zhejiang Province and analyzed using SPSS17. The regression model was found to have a high degree of fit, with significant Wald statistics. According to the results, 88% of students favored working in institutions and social service organizations, followed by government agencies, state-owned enterprises, and foreign enterprises. Private enterprises and military units were not as preferred. The study proposed several optimization strategies for college management systems, including standardizing career guidance courses, establishing a comprehensive web-based employment service platform, and implementing a feedback mechanism for continuous improvement. This article examines supervisory practices in vocational education and training teaching internships within a blended-learning system. Using a multiple-case study of five triads made up of a university supervisor, a cooperative teacher from the workplace and a student teacher, practices were analysed through the lens of supervisory functions: support, mediation between theory and practice, collaboration, evaluation and internship management. Findings show that support and evaluation practices are dominant within triads. The management function is characterized by practices surrounding the selection and use of digital tools to supervise student teachers in a blended-learning system. The collaboration function appears to be inconsistent from one triad to another, while the mediation between theory and practice function plays a limited role in the practices of all supervisors, despite being identified as one of their main responsibilities. © © 2024 Dionne, Gagnon and Petit.

Enhancing industry engagement in vocational education is a crucial strategy for refining the quality of graduates to meet the continuously evolving job market needs. This article conducts a systematic review of the existing literature to identify the challenges and opportunities in industry involvement in vocational education. Through in-depth analysis of various sources, the article reveals that the skill gap between the vocational education curriculum and industry needs remains a significant issue. This challenge is exacerbated by assessment and certification systems that often do not accurately reflect the actual competencies required by the industry. Furthermore, the article explores opportunities through internship and work placement programs that enable students to gain relevant experience, as well as strategic partnerships between educational institutions and industries to develop responsive curricula. The article also recommends enhancing the synergy between vocational education and industry through policies that support this integration, which will not only improve the quality of vocational education but also expand employment opportunities for graduates. This research indicates that more integrated and sustained cooperation between vocational education and the industrial sector is key to ensuring the relevance of education with the dynamics of the global job market. © 2024 IEEE.

This article aims to identify settings where joint working in third space occurs between academics and other professionals supporting educational outcomes and through the development and sustainability of unique learning environments that link academic provision and work-related learning. Specifically, the focus of the article is on the preparation of higher education students for the world of work, facilitating links between academic studies and practical experiences. It aims to unpack the ways in which higher education institutions respond to the complexities of the changing labour market and develop approaches when moving their academic provision towards a more work-related provision to enable students to engage with industries and learn alongside professionals. An explorative, qualitative case study approach was employed, using semi-structured interviews with staff members from two universities. Findings indicate that the crossover between theoretical learning, practical experiences and employer engagement involves continuous boundary crossing of in-between spaces (for example, intersections between higher education and work) to foster the effective development of skills and expertise of students necessary for the contemporary world of work. The case study universities showed that engaging with third spaces contributes to integrating academic and practical learning, and introduces students to industry-engaged higher education, enhancing employability skills. Through these spaces, students can experience unknown challenges in the context of a constantly changing world of work. The findings suggest that this requires an enabling learning ecosystem, underpinned by a range of components, including continuous stakeholder collaboration, curriculum development and integration of theory and practice. © 2024, Katherine Emms, Natasha Kersh and Andrea Laczik.

In an ever-changing and uncertain world, it is challenging to tackle the multiple factors that influence the job prospects of young researchers as well as their employability enhancement opportunities. This academic research is intended to address the spill overs of gender-based gaps, and to unveil the manifestations of postcolonial dynamics within Higher Education, Research, and Innovation (HERI) institutions contexts. Specifically, by recognizing the key elements of intersectionality that assist in or hinder young researchers in (i) acquiring, keeping, and finding jobs; (ii) comprehending the intricate social encounters that are fortified by intersectional investigation to overcome distinct obstacles; and (iii) enhancing employability skills and qualities in the educational setting intelligently and sustainably. The study is informed by ‘intersectional praxis’ for institutional transformation in HERI contexts. The paper’s discussion delves into ways how intersectionality is both a catalyst for employability enhancement and institutional excellence. Methodologically, the study comprised a qualitative scrutiny of how the concept of intersectionality featured in a selection of articles published 5-10 years earlier and scoped from established databases (WOS, SCOPUS). The findings support the discussion on the impact of postcolonial perspective(s) of young researchers on disrupting socio-political discourses, fostering further sustainable, nuanced, and comprehensive treatments of (anti) and (de)colonizing HERI contexts and experiences. © 2024, University of Malta. Students benefit from a nonlinear learning path, also known as a nonsequential learning path, because it allows them to control the pace and sequence of their learning. However, the dynamics of a nonlinear learning path, particularly within an open learning environment like MOOCs, remain underexplored. The current study aims to map out various nonlinear learning paths and explore the potential for personalisation within these environments. Guided by the PRISMA 2020 Statement, we conducted a comprehensive review of 3, 418 articles from three databases, focusing on 30 that were relevant to nonlinear learning paths in open learning environments. We discovered that a nonlinear learning path in MOOCs involves path selection, cyclical paths, or skipped paths, all influenced by the design of the MOOC learning materials. In classrooms utilizing an open learning environment, a nonlinear learning path is facilitated by activities such as face-to-face or online discussions, self-study materials, student-created content, project mentoring or coaching, peer feedback, and co-learning activities. Additionally, personalisation, tailored by educators or technology, is key to preventing students from becoming disoriented within these open learning environments. Our findings highlight the importance of promoting nonlinear learning paths in both classrooms and MOOCs, developing learning path recommender systems, and creating supportive MOOC learning materials. Future research should explore students’ perceptions of nonlinear learning paths within an open learning environment, particularly focusing on the integration and impact of MOOC learning materials. © (2024), (Anadolu Universitesi). University-Industry (U-I) collaborative entrepreneurship education has emerged as a potential solution that enables the industry to access academic knowledge while providing university students with opportunities to supplement their classroom instruction with practical experience. This study aims to systematise the most relevant U-I collaborative entrepreneurship education literature, trends, and dynamics. Based on a sample of 67 articles extracted from the WoS database and through the application of bibliographic analyses, the results show six main thematic clusters: 1) entrepreneurship teaching and learning; 2) learning-by-doing curricula; 3) student entrepreneurial motivation, intention, and self-efficacy; 4) higher education institutions entrepreneurial cultivation; 5) entrepreneurship education and training pedagogy; 6) digital integration. Furthermore, an integrative framework illustrating different research paths and their interconnectedness was developed. Directions for future research to advance academic understanding of U-I collaborative entrepreneurship education were advanced. © © 2024 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Different influences have shaped curriculum elements in engineering education over the last decade. Prior work has referred to faculty background, accreditation criteria, and industry demands. A recent influence has been the digitalization of the curriculum during the COVID-19 pandemic, forcing many engineering schools to incorporate curriculum changes. In this context, we addressed the following research question in this study: What factors have influenced curriculum reforms in engineering education in the last decade? Thus, the main research objective is to illustrate the main influences over curriculum elements from an academic perspective, aiming to inform future research and innovations in curriculum development. We used a scoping review to synthesize evidence and assess the literature’s scope concerning engineering education curriculum reforms. We collected the papers from the Scopus database to point out key factors and knowledge gaps in the research on curriculum education reforms. According to a two-stage screening process, we selected 73 studies from 80 papers published between 2011 and 2021. Out of these 73 publications, 11 correspond to scientific articles, two to book chapters, and 60 to proceedings of different conferences. To identify emerging themes, all three authors analyzed the abstracts of the remaining 73 papers. This scoping review highlights the significant impact of economic and technological changes on engineering reform, particularly post-COVID-19. It aggregates studies to provide a global perspective, contrasting with prior research on individual institutions. These aggregated approaches reveal broader trends and emerging challenges that support a shared vision in engineering curriculum development and improvement. © 2024 TEMPUS Publications.
