The benefits of growth in university enrolments are contingent on the articulation of university expansion with changes in other areas, particularly the economy. The costs of a mismatch are felt at the societal level, but especially by individual graduates. This article describes problems faced by professionals in one country that has experienced very rapid expansion of higher education in a highly privatised market economy. While not uniformly generalisable to other countries, the results are illustrative of what can occur. The study is based on subjective information provided by Chilean university graduates who have recently sought employment. The graduates’ narratives can be aligned along three major dimensions of dissatisfaction: labour force entry; earnings; and working conditions. The themes are linked and combine to describe a difficult transition from university to work in a context of low salaries and unstable and uncertain employment. Among factors contributing to unfulfilment of aspirations are the graduates’ social capital and socioeconomic status, the geographic location of the job, the university from which they graduated, and activities while a student. Unsynchronised expansion of different social institutions can reduce social equity and cohesion. © 2024 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Partnerships with local public sector agencies, enterprises and tertiary institutions offer a means to inform young people about post-school pathways into working life and occupations that schools alone cannot achieve. Informing about those pathways is an important, yet, complex educational goal for schooling. This is because much of schooling effort privileges and is directed towards higher education entry. Often advice provided to young people through schools is by teachers and administrators who are, understandably, unacquainted with the range of post-school pathways other than higher education. School guidance officers report being ill-equipped and unable to provide students personalised advice. Consequently, sources of advice and experiences beyond the school are now being utilised, particularly through the growing role of partnerships. These partnerships take diverse forms and comprise different kinds of institutional alignments and are increasingly being viewed as essential bases for supporting effective and informed post-school transitions. This article presents and discusses a review of literature and a recent investigation to advance principles and practices of how such partnerships can be best initiated, enacted, and sustained over time and they can meet the goals of informing and guiding young people’s pathways, including options other than progression to higher education. © 2024 The Author(s). This paper delves into the concept of craftsmanship in the context of biotechnology education, initially defining craftsmanship and extending it to encompass a new-era craftsmanship defined by the qualities essential in the biological sciences. The study employs a rigorously tested questionnaire to survey the current state of craftsmanship cultivation among students in higher vocational colleges, analyzing its prevalence and identifying the key factors influencing its development. This research not only assesses the current strategies employed by educational institutions but also explores the role of enterprises in fostering this vital attribute through internships and collaborative programs. Additionally, it evaluates the future trends in craftsmanship development from the perspectives of students, schools, and businesses. The results highlight a nuanced understanding of craftsmanship’s role in biotechnology education, revealing varying degrees of awareness and appreciation among students, and suggesting substantial improvements in students' biotechnological literacy. The paper concludes with a discussion on the satisfaction levels of all stakeholders with the current progress and suggests pathways for enhancing the cultivation of craftsmanship to meet future industry demands. This approach underscores the need for an integrated educational framework that not only promotes technical skills but also instills a deep sense of craftsmanship essential for innovation and excellence in the biotechnology field. © 2024, Journal of Commercial Biotechnology. As academic educators committed to training future health professionals, we should understand and address the new educational needs they may perceive as a result of the global increase in the number of chronically ill patients. This paper aims to present a new learning/teaching strategy that has been implemented in a bachelor course for health professionals, based on the evidence of: a) the complexity of the issue of therapeutic adherence; b) the lived experience of chronic illness as a personal matter; c) the usefulness of therapeutic patient education (TPE) conceived only as a transmissive practice. In this course, some lectures were combined with workshops in which students were asked to deal with a real patient's story for whom they had to define an educational plan. The results show the success of the creative choices implemented from a training perspective and the satisfaction of the learners asked to experiment in the classroom a work practice with a high rate of autonomy. © 2024 International Conference on higher education Advances.

The employment of people with disabilities is a goal indicated by international and European development policies. The possibility of access to education and vocational training is a prerequisite for achieving an independent life. This paper presents a qualitative research design for studying networks, which can support education and vocational training pathways of students with disabilities. Networks play an important role in building relationships between students and other social actors, and they allow for the identification of resources to ensure equal access to education, vocational training, and labour market. The preliminary results of the legislation and scientific literature analysis indicate the relevance of two elements: a new concept of people with disabilities, considered not only as users but also as actors in the network; the contribution of educational research to human and professional development in non-formal educational contexts, such as work environments. © 2024 International Conference on higher education Advances.

Teachers in inclusive classrooms do not use the results of scientific research on evidence-based practices; this gap between research and practice can be seen as a result of theoretical content in teacher education and should be reduced. UX design is an approach from Computer Sciences to build a bridge from providers to users. The following study looks for ways to bridge the theory-practice gap with the help of the UX design approach in inclusive teacher education. Therefore, the use of UX design was implemented in a course for student teachers for inclusive education. The results on three levels - technical improvement of the whiteboard, students' experiences and the seminar method - showed positive results and revealed the potential of UX design methods in inclusive teacher education, which should be explored in further studies. © 2024 International Conference on higher education Advances.
