Towards Designing a Project-Based learning-Technology Based learning (PBL-TBL) Science Module to Promote Social Interaction Among Preschool Children with the Integration of Blended learning Approach

The declining number of Malaysian students opting for the science stream has impacted the country's global PISA ranking. This paper presents the development of a Project-based learning-Technology-based learning (PBL-TBL) science module for preschool children, aiming to foster early interest in science through collaborative activities. The study employs a mixed-method design, incorporating three phases of the ADDIE Model: needs analysis, design, and development. In the needs analysis phase, interviews were conducted with nine preschool educators to assess the necessity of the module. During the design phase, six experts evaluated the prototype to ensure its effectiveness. The development phase involved nine experts assessing the usability of the MyPraSains learning module, specifically designed for Malaysian preschools. In the implementation phase, 25 preschoolers engaged in an activity from the module to test its practical application. Finally, the evaluation phase involved an educator interview to assess the module’s impact based on expert feedback. Findings revealed that experts unanimously agreed on the validity of the MyPraSains module, achieving a content validity index (CVI) of 1.00. Additionally, children demonstrated significant social development through active participation in module activities. Educators also endorsed the module, recommending its adoption in preschool settings as a benchmark for science education quality in Malaysia. This study highlights the potential of early science exposure in nurturing long-term interest in STEM fields, addressing the ongoing decline in science stream enrolment. © Universiti Putra Malaysia Press.

Work-based learning: Expansive learning, désoeuvrement, social justice and VET

The paper raises important questions about the relationship between Vocational Education and Training (VET), work-based learning (WBL) and social justice. It adopts an analysis that moves beyond conceptualisations that validate WBL as an acknowledgement of the dignity of labour. It seeks to go beyond analyses that mobilise a conventional understanding of expansive learning. How then can we develop a broader understanding of WBL and VET? Such an understanding needs to acknowledge socio-economic contexts are marked by a fluidity and surplus labour and for many worklessness – what some have described as désoeuvrement. Labor can be an expression of our species being and can be found in unwaged work and the activities we engage in to express our humanity. Such labour is external to the oppressions and exploitation that are features of much waged labour. Is it then possible to conceive of an expansive notion of VET that goes beyond wage-based cultures of expansive learning towards a position that has embedded within it a commitment towards collective well-being, social justice and an understanding of the vocational that moves beyond a focus on waged labour and the interests of capital. © The Author(s) 2024.

Crossword Puzzle as an Effective Formative Assessment Tool in Physiology—From Trial for Implementation in Competency‑Based Medical Education

Background: The new curriculum envisages a different perspective on assessment and advocates greater emphasis on setting up continuous assessment. With advances in technology, many innovations about teaching, learning and assessment have been experimented. The present study intended to explore the effectiveness of crossword puzzles as an assessment tool for learning. Material and Methods: For one half of the competencies in endocrine physiology, after planned lecture sessions, a crossword puzzle was distributed and the students were instructed to solve the puzzle soon after the session. For the other half of the competencies, only planned lecture sessions were conducted. Students’ performance was tested by conducting part completion tests, which included questions from topics covered by lectures with and without crossword puzzles. Following this, a pre-validated questionnaire was administered to study the students’ perception about usefulness for extension of the utility. Results: In the part completion test, the scores obtained by students for the questions covered by lecture and crossword were significantly higher than the scores obtained by the students in questions covered by lecture alone. The majority of them expressed positive vibes towards crossword puzzles as an in-class room formative assessment tool. Conclusion: The findings of the present study suggest that blending crossword puzzles at the end of lecture sessions would lead to better student involvement in the learning process and improved performance as it provides a recreational break from lecture monotony. © 2025 Medical Journal of Dr. D.Y. Incidental professional development in music education for generalist teaching staff through supporting pupils in expert-led authentic music projects

The need for effective continuing professional development (CPD) in music education is outlined and literature on CPD for generalist teachers and teaching assistants is reviewed. A small qualitative study is then presented that took advantage of a music-making project led by folk musicians in six special schools in England. This study focused on the generalist teaching staff who actively supported their pupils to participate. The staff reported that their own confidence in working musically had increased, as had their awareness of the importance of music for children. It is suggested that these outcomes were achieved through incidental CPD, potentially paving the way for further, deliberate CPD. © The Author(s), 2024. Published by Cambridge University Press.

Enhancing Competency-Based learning with Neutrosophic Regression and the Deming Cycle

This article introduces a novel approach to enhance competency-based learning by combining the Deming Cycle with neutrosophic statistics. Competency-based education focuses on practical skills, but uncertainty in student performance and assessment can hinder its effectiveness. Neutrosophic statistics, unlike traditional methods, explicitly models indeterminacy, providing a more complete picture of uncertainty in educational data. This approach integrates neutrosophic numbers into regression analysis to predict learning outcomes and quantify the confidence level of those predictions. These predictions, with their associated indeterminacy, then inform the Deming Cycle (Plan-Do-Check-Act), enabling educators to dynamically adjust teaching strategies based on data-driven in-sights. This leads to more informed decision-making, improved accuracy and reliability in predictions, and ultimately fosters continuous improvement in competency-based education. © 2025, University of New Mexico. The Impact of Digital learning Culture: Web-Based Media in Teaching News Writing

The issue of digital learning culture in teaching news writing is very important and needed. Innovative learning media has a positive impact on increasing students’ understanding of learning materials. The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of web-based media in teaching news writing to journalism education students at Indonesian universities. This study implements an experimental research method in which the media was tested using a quasi-experimental design. The data was analyzed using a One-Way ANOVA. The sample population of this study were fourth semester students of the Indonesian language and literature education department at four universities in Central Java, Indonesia, who took journalism education. The samples were selected using cluster sampling in which four universities implement four different learning media, namely web-based media, PowerPoint, video, and audio media. Results of the study revealed that the cultural impact of digital learning in implementing web-based media was more effective on teaching news writing rather than implementing PowerPoint, video, and audio. © 2025 Ahsin, Andayani, and Setiawan.

China’s national image in the classroom: evidence of bicultural identity integration

Curriculum is the most direct way for international students to perceive China, and how the Chinese national image courses can help international students to form the ability of bicultural identity integration is an important issue to be solved in this study. Based on the bicultural identity integration theory, this study constructed a model of international students’ perceptions of the Chinese national image courses and explored the mechanisms of bicultural identity integration among international students, with the following conclusions: firstly, perceived usefulness had the greatest influence on international students’ attitudes toward learning the Chinese national image courses, followed by self-efficacy. Secondly, the three paths of perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and self-efficacy can indirectly influence the bicultural identity integration of international students coming to China. Finally, perceived risk can moderate bicultural identity integration to some extent. Based on this, this study puts forward some suggestions for the construction of curriculum resources on China’s national image for international students, in order to help international students better develop intercultural cognition and communicative competence. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Enhancing English Vocabulary Through Mobile Legends: Insights from EFL Students

This research aimed to explore students perceptions of playing Mobile Legends: Bang-Bang (MLBB) as a means to improve English vocabulary. Students had a deficient English vocabulary, which negatively affected their learning, especially in imperative statements. This research utilized a qualitative approach based on the Miles and Huberman analytical framework. The data were gathered from 150 ninth-grade students at Junior High School 10 Pematangsiantar. Data were collected through closed questionnaires concerning content vocabulary and perceptions (auditory and visual). The collected data were checked according to the reactions from the 5 point Likert scale questionnaire, then inputted into Ms. Excel and tabulated; afterward, the data were described de-scriptively in a paragraph. This research discovered that a significant number of students had reported positive outcomes for MLBB influence on their vocabulary improvement. Specifically, 69.21% of students had responded positively, comprising 13.88% who strongly agreed and 55.33% who agreed. Neutral replies had constituted 19.38%, whereas negative comments had amounted to 11.42%, including 8.88% who disagreed and 2.54% who strongly disagreed. Regarding auditory and visual perception, 74.34% had exhibited a favorable response, 16.7% had maintained a neutral stance, and 9.6% had provided a negative response. The researcher concluded that most students at Junior High School 10 Pematangsiantar had regarded MLBB as an advantageous alternative for improving their English vocabulary, with a significant majority expressing favorable opinions of the game. © 2025, Pandawan Sejahtera. INTEGRATION OF ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY FLIPBOOKS BASED ON PROJECT-BASED learning IN IMPROVING CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS AND SCIENTIFIC LITERACY TO SUPPORT SDG-4

This study was aimed at assessing the effectiveness of Project-Based learning (PjBL)-based analytical chemistry flipbooks in improving students’ critical thinking skills and scientific literacy, and linking the results to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG-4), namely quality education. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, involving two groups: an experimental group (n = 250) using PjBL-based flipbooks, and a control group (n = 250) using conventional textbooks. The projects in PjBL were designed to challenge students to apply critical thinking skills in solving real problems in analytical chemistry. Scientific literacy was measured based on students’ ability to understand, evaluate, and apply chemical concepts in the context of the project. Critical thinking skills and scientific literacy tests were used to measure learning outcomes before and after the intervention. The instrument in this study was a test of critical thinking skills and scientific literacy. Statistical tests showed that the data were normally distributed (significance value 0.216), homogeneous variance (0.074), and significant differences between the experimental and control groups (t = 0.038, p < 0.05). The increase in n-gain in the experimental group reached 0.9 (high category), compared to 0.63 (moderate category) in the control group. This study concluded that Project-Based learning-based flipbooks were significantly more effective than conventional textbooks in improving students’ critical thinking skills and scientific literacy. The results of this study confirmed the superiority of PjBL-based flipbooks in significantly improving students’ critical thinking skills and scientific literacy compared to conventional textbooks. Statistical data support (normal distribution, homogeneous variance, significant differences between groups, and high n-gain in the experimental group) encourages the adoption of PjBL-based flipbooks as an effective learning strategy to achieve quality education according to SDG-4. © 2025 Science Education Study Program FMIPA UNNES Semarang.

Optimizing Classroom Engagement in National Certificate (Vocational) Mathematics: A Framework for Questioning Techniques

This study develops and tests a questioning model aimed at enhancing interactive engagement in financial mathematics instruction within a single NC(V) Level 2 classroom. Grounded in formative assessment principles, the model incorporates structured and open-ended questions to foster procedural and conceptual understanding. The intervention used real-world financial scenarios like budgeting and loan repayments to make abstract concepts more relatable. Data were collected through classroom observations and a preparatory examination to evaluate student engagement and understanding. The findings indicate that consistent questioning fosters active participation, while higher-order questions promote critical thinking and real-world application. While performance improvements were noted, the primary focus was on engagement quality rather than academic outcomes. This study offers insights into how questioning strategies can enhance interactive learning in vocational education. Future research should expand the model to other subjects, gather student feedback, and integrate advanced digital tools for deeper interactivity. © 2025, City University of New York.
