Effective university–industry partnerships (UIPs) help universities access state-of-the-art equipment and resources to conduct research and improve their educational programs. The development of UIPs is a key priority in post-Soviet Kazakhstan’s governmental education agenda; however, little is known about its influence on students’ learning and employment preparation. This study examines the influence of UIPs on students’ learning processes and employability in Kazakhstan. Drawing on interviews with senior leadership and faculty (N = 55) in four state universities, our findings demonstrate that although the government has invested in several policy initiatives to enhance university–industry collaboration, the full potential of UIPs to improve students’ learning and employability is limited by the poor organization of internships, excessive governmental control, and the need to comply with education policies that do not account for regional economic differences. We argue that these barriers are rooted in the government’s homogenization of assessment criteria for employability, lack of consistency in higher education reform initiatives, industry reluctance to collaborate with universities, limited university autonomy, and a poor understanding of partnerships. These findings have implications for university leaders, faculty, and policymakers interested in developing and improving UIPs. © International Association of Universities 2024.

The development of information technology has changed the world of education , including the application of e-learning in universities. This study explores how e-learning can improve the academic achievement and critical thinking skills of automotive engineering students who rely on gadgets. Using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS‒ SEM) method on data collected through purposive sampling, this study analyzed verbal communication, motivation, creativity, learner interaction with content, gadget use intensity, peer collaborative engagement, academic achievement, and critical thinking. The results showed that verbal communication and learner interaction with content significantly increased motivation and creativity, while excessive gadget use intensity had a negative impact. The indirect effect of learner interaction with content on academic achievement through motivation showed a P-coefficient of 0.027. In contrast, the impact of verbal communication on academic achievement through motivation showed a P-coefficient of 0.014. These findings emphasize the importance of a holistic approach in designing e-learning programs that support verbal communication, active participation, and balanced use of gadgets to improve education quality. Educational institutions are advised to develop effective e-learning programs and explore other factors, such as educational access, that affect learning outcomes in e-learning. © 2024, International Journal of Information and education Technology. This study explores the integration of socio-humanitarian safety components into the chemistry curriculum for secondary education , emphasizing how contextual and competency-based assessments can enhance the preparedness of future chemistry teachers. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research evaluates the effectiveness of traditional, contextual, and competency-oriented assessment methods in measuring and fostering key competencies among 11th-grade chemistry students. Quantitative data were gathered from traditional assessments, contextual tasks, and the Unified National Testing (UNT), while qualitative insights were obtained from teacher interviews and classroom observations. The findings reveal significant discrepancies between traditional assessment scores and those from contextual and competency-based tasks, with weak correlations between traditional methods and both contextual (r = 0.48) and competency-oriented assessments (r = 0.43). A moderate correlation (r = 0.65) was observed between contextual tasks and competency-oriented tests, suggesting that these methods are more aligned with practical, application-based learning. While traditional assessments effectively evaluate theoretical knowledge and show a strong correlation with UNT scores (r = 0.83), they are insufficient for measuring higher -order competencies. The study underscores the necessity for a balanced assessment framework that incorporates both conventional and innovative methods to fully capture the spectrum of student competencies essential for socio-humanitarian safety in science education . These findings have significant implications for curriculum design, indicating that a diversified assessment approach can better prepare students for real-world challenges by fostering a comprehensive understanding of chemistry beyond rote memorization. © 2024 Fırtına Akademi A.Ş. This book explores the intersections of education and technology in audiovisual translation, unpacking the evolution of AVT ecosystems and looking ahead to future directions for the role of technology in the translation industry and higher education . The volume begins by outlining a holistic account of audiovisual translation scholarship, which includes work on subtitling and dubbing but which has grown to encompass a wider range of practices in light of new technologies, before looking at the current landscape of translator education , including greater interest in distance education and AVT-centered curriculum design. These foundations set the stage for an examination of technological inroads which have permeated AVT practice, including the rise of cloud-based technologies and their use by major media companies. Bolaños draws parallels between these developments to demonstrate the ways in which new tools can help the ever-evolving needs of both the translation industry and higher education and in turn, foster industry-academia collaboration and the growth of new technologies through investment at the pedagogical level. This book will be of interest to students, scholars, and practitioners in translation studies, particularly those working in audiovisual translation, translation technologies, and translator training. This article asserts that serious games (SGs) are effective tools for teaching citation and referencing styles in higher education . The proposed SG aims to enhance students' understanding and application of these styles through an engaging, game-based approach. We use an agile design cycle combined with educational design and design science research methodologies. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)-integrated project-based learning (PBL) is essential in contemporary education as it improves students’ advanced cognitive capacities, critical thinking aptitude, scientific literacy, and ecological awareness. This study aims to identify and highlight some research publications that examine STEM-integrated PBL to improve students’ biology practical skills in higher education . The author guided the systematic review process with the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses diagram, ensuring a structured approach to article selection. The author selected 24 potential articles for the literature review based on certain inclusion criteria. The chosen articles emphasize the importance of evaluating STEM-integrated PBL to improve biology practicum skills among students in higher education , highlighting the need for quantitative methods such as descriptive surveys and experiments in research. The research article’s findings show a positive trend toward improving educational practices in biology through the integration of STEM in PBL, with a growing body of literature focusing on this area. In the 21st century, the need to develop skills has gained significance. Most education systems equip graduates with the cognitive skills needed to enter the labour market. However, it is soft skills that enable young graduates to become potential employees. Hungarian higher education is characterised by a teacher-centred approach, which is less conducive to the development of soft skills. Our research investigates graduates’ skills and the extent to which their skills are in alignment with the requirements of the workplace. The Fresh Graduate Survey 2020 database was used, while our interview survey provides nuances to the results of the secondary analysis. We also analyse how one Hungarian higher education institution has supported students’ transition to the labour market. Data show that the competences considered important in the labour market are not always the same as the skills that graduates most often possess. There is a considerable gap between expected and existing skills in the following areas: problem-solving, time management, practical expertise and conflict management. These skills are particularly important in the labour market, but graduates are less likely to have them. The results of the quantitative research are also nuanced by the interviews, which show that higher education provides a good foundation but does not sufficiently focus on the development of soft skills. The results of the qualitative research highlight a number of shortcomings in key areas, the development of which is important not only at the level of individuals but also in the long term in view of the prestige of university education . © 2024 Deakin University. The increasing use of technology in education has opened new possibilities for improving student motivation and attendance management, particularly in vocational high schools, where consistent attendance is essential for skill acquisition. This study aims to evaluate the impact of a web-based e-attendance system on enhancing student motivation and attendance consistency. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving 35 students, with an intervention group and a control group. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test was used to analyze pretest and posttest attendance data due to the non-normal distribution of the data. The intervention group was provided with a web-based e-attendance system, while the control group used traditional methods. The analysis revealed a significant improvement in the intervention group's attendance consistency, with an effect size of 0.71 and a p-value of 0.000, indicating a strong positive impact of the e-attendance system. The control group showed no significant changes in attendance. The findings suggest that the web-based e-attendance system enhances student accountability by providing real-time feedback, which leads to better attendance and higher motivation. The system also enables early identification of absenteeism patterns, allowing for timely interventions. Involving parents in monitoring further supports student motivation. Overall, the system plays a key role in improving student outcomes in vocational high schools. The web-based e-attendance system significantly improves attendance consistency and student motivation in vocational education , making it a valuable tool for enhancing student engagement and academic performance. © 2024 IEEE.

An integral part of every degree program leading to a professional certification, including engineering, is the campus interview. Having every program's student placed is the main objective. Efforts to improve students' placement achievements have led to the inclusion of communication skills in all engineering courses; nonetheless, the curriculum mostly concentrates on developing four language talents. Insufficient emphasis is placed on the significance of employability skills among students. Students should be self-aware about their skill sets, and this essay will make a case for that fact while also outlining why it is important and providing suggestions for how students might showcase their strongest qualifications. The three stages that make up this suggested method are feature selection, model training, and log preprocessing. Initial Preprocessing, Stopwords Removal, Stemming, Lemmatization, and Emoji Recognition are all parts of preprocessing. Picking out features Principal component analysis (PCA) creates a principal component as a linear combination of factor-related observed variables by applying an appropriate weight to each of the variables. A New-A-ResNet-LSTM Ensemble was used all the way through training the model. Compared to LSTM and ResNet, this novel method has a higher average accuracy of 92.95%. © 2024 IEEE.
